The Bravery of One Saved Many

No Man Left Behind

Under the direction of Mel Gibson, "Hacksaw Ridge" portrays the exceptional bravery of one particular soldier who saved countless lives without firing or using one single weapon.  Private Desmond Doss was the only American Soldier during WWII who fought on the front lines without a weapon in hand due to his belief that killing was wrong, despite the war justifying that belief.  Before Doss could set foot on the battlefield without a weapon to defend himself, he had to convince and prove to the Army that he only wants to help his fellow soldiers, not kill the enemy.  "Hacksaw Ridge" puts family, faith, love and forgiveness all on the line in a realm of violent conflict.

Before watching "Hacksaw Ridge", I did not have any clue about Desmond Doss and his outstanding contribution and bravery at the Battle of Okinawa.  Also, I was clueless about the battle itself.  However, after watching this extraordinary film, I was informed and enlightened about the heroism that Doss possessed and the hardship but especially brotherhood that war can evoke.

I have always been interested in action and historic films that originate around the central idea of provoking the truth behind war and its hardships and its bravery.  So naturally, I was drawn to this spectacular film due to the fact that it illustrates the "true" story about an American hero who did not get the total recognition that he deserved.   Another contributing factor as to why I was so drawn and amazed by this dramatic film is due to the fact that my grandfather, father, and now brother served and are currently serving for our country.  Whenever my father or brother would want to watch a movie, the film always fell within the category of war, bloodshed and the heroes during that time.  No hero should ever go unrecognized.
