Injustice Fought with Intelligence
Fight for Voices to be Heard |
The Oscar-nominated film, "Hidden Figures" shows and illustrates the oppression and obstacles that not just women, but African American women went through to become recognized and heard. This film shines light on one particular group of women whose intelligence help contribute tremendously in the advancement with man and space. It is also a story about friendship, inspiration and a reminder to have full confidence in your capabilities, no matter the persecution.
This film brought empowerment and inspirations to not only my eyes, but to my voice as well. It showed and taught me that no matter how life treats you, always pursue your goals, never take no for an answer, and always fight for what you believe in. Gender and race should never be deciding factors on whether you are credible and trustworthy or not. This film shows young women and children to fight for yourself and who you stand with. And to never let a man or another individual tell you that you can't achieve anything or that you are not capable of carrying out the work. Take their criticism and make yourself better and stronger. Show them that their words won't break you, they will only make you stronger.
All of my life, I have witnessed the women that I love and admire be taken for granted or belittled because of their gender. So naturally, I have a bias towards individuals who see women as nothing or incapable of performing a "man's" task. This helped shape my evaluation of the film in that women's voices and actions should be heard and appreciated. Just like in the film, you never know what women are capable of. In today's day and age, oppression and stereotypes should be in the past, yet some individuals cannot let them go. This results in the continuous fight for certain individuals and groups of individuals voices to be heard and acknowledged.
