The Believing Game: Should Equality be Universal?
Fight for Women's Rights
Women have been fighting for equal rights non-stop. So why hasn't equality been granted? Every women is capable and should be able to pursue their dream, whether it be labeled as "women's work" or especially "men's work". Women should be able to feel and be granted the respect and fairness they deserve.
Already Achieved Equality
In the eyes of many, women have already achieved equality when they were granted the right to vote and to obtain a job outside of the household. So why are women still fighting for equality when they have already been permitted such rights?
Women have been fighting for equal rights for a considerable amount of time, however, they don’t want to be treated like men, so why are they pushing for equality? Women and men are classified into two totally different groups, therefore, reaching equality is impossible. Men are the strong and dominant species, whereas women are emotional and weak. Men are within a sphere of strength, power and parliament and women are meant to care for children and take care of “wifely duties”. I believe that women are unfit for direct competition with men due to the fact that they are physically smaller and weaker, and that they possess too much emotion that could interfere with work. In fact, women are not capable to hold a position in politics because they are too passionate to make a political decision. Also, within the political field, women are not capable of contributing force and dominance to carry out a form of action. On the other hand, women don’t need individual representation because they are already represented by their husband, which is someone they should rely heavily on. A women’s salary should not be comparable to that of a man’s due to the fact that women are incapable of doing a “man's” job, so why should they be paid just as much as a man. All in all, women do not need equal rights because they are not the same as men in any aspect and that they should be dependent upon their husband.
Both arguments are well constructed, and show both sides points of view in a fair and unbiased light. The argument for both sides seems to be structured around the emotional ideals of women's equality. The paragraph on continuing the fight for women's rights seems much more persuasive, as the argument that women had already achieved equality seems to be counterarguments to the points made in the first paragraph without offering any new topics to the debate.
ReplyDeleteAs a woman myself I appreciate this topic you chose to bring up. I can tell you are passionate about this issue. It is true that women have been granted many rights, as well as been kept or restricted from others. The question is, will women ever be equal to men, and how will we know what that looks like if or when it happens?
